Migraine Or Sinus Headache

severe headache and tooth numbness?

This morning I developed a severe headache and along with that came numbness to my teeth on the upper right side. Could this be a sinus headache or a migraine? I have never experienced either. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Telling Migraines and Sinus Headaches Apart

There is no doubting the fact that both migraines and sinus headaches are quite painful.  Many people suffer from one type of headache, but think that is the other.  If you are suffering from one of these painful headaches, it is important that you learn how to tell the difference between the two so that the headaches can be treated properly.

Migraine headaches are the most painful headaches that you can experience.  Many sufferers of migraines actually thought that there were brain issues going on when they first developed their migraines.  This is actually partly true.  Migraines are caused from the swelling of blood vessels in the brain that pur pressure on the nerves, which then causes the pain and other symptoms that accompany the migraines.

The symptoms of migraines will of course include the intense pain.  You will also experience vision disturbances, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and some problems with hearing in a few cases.  Migraines can last for days at a time, and they can occur several times in a month, depending on what your particular triggers are.

Sinus headaches are completely different.  While they are still rather painful, they are not accompanied by any of the symptoms that are present with migraines.  A sinus headache will be localized to the areas in the front of the face and forehead, and sometimes around the temples.  Sinus headaches will often come with pressure in these areas, particularly around the eyes and the bridge of your nose.

The treatments will be completely different for each of these headaches.  For migraines it is often necessary to have a prescription that works to prevent them but also a prescription that will help reduce the intensity of the ones that slip through.  For sinus headaches, a general allergy medication works for prevention, and one that is combined with a pain medication such as ibuprofen or acetametaphine will be effective to treat the sinus pressure and headache pain.
