Scientific Wrestling: Chris Benoit's crimes and suicide: exploring the role of a head injury in behavior murderer

I was totally surprised heard of the WWE wrestler Chris Benoit's death this weekend. I was even more surprised and thoroughly disappointed to learn that he murdered his wife and son as well.

Benoit was the only artist in the WWE that caught my attention because of its technical prowess wrestling. I was really at a loss to understand the evil that Benoit perpetuated in the prolonged murder / suicide.

While the media seems to want to steroids the scapegoat, may not be the only driver behind unhealthy behavior. There was an interesting article in the New York Times suggesting that head trauma may have a role Article is here.

In it, former WWE wrestler and Harvard graduate Christopher Nowinski makes the suggestion that concussions may be the reason and I completely agree. The deliberate nature of the murder / suicide (eg, prolonged acts, the placements of bibles next to the bodies, sending text messages to colleagues, etc.) do not lend themselves to "Roid Rage". Unfortunately, Chris was ultimately responsible for these heinous acts, drugs (this does not mean that anabolic steroids without a prescription are not bad, because they are).

This does not mean that anabolic steroids are not a contributing factor in his behavior, only to find that it is a much more tenuous conclusion to do when the argument of trauma the head is at once so compelling and backed by extensive research and testing (For an interesting news story about the effects of anabolic steroids to see this link YouTube). The combination of mood altering hormonal imbalance and head trauma are fatal.

Chris Benoit made a living in the entertainment field known for its steel chair shots to the head and flying headbutts (Benoit has made the final movement from the top rope for maximum impact) and the autopsy should not only include toxicology, but a CT scan of the brain damage caused to "hardcore" style of wrestling as well.

When and if we open a school of wrestling will be straight-up wrestling (shoot-style professional wrestling and competitive catch-as-catch can-). No photos steel chair over his head, not there is pressure to look like a "body-builder," not an intentional head injury. I think the only positive that can come from this tragedy is disgusting when people are open to learning lessons from it (in relation to domestic violence, drugs, head trauma, etc.).
